Visible growths on the wall

One of the telltale signs of a mould infestation is visible growths in and around the home. Typically, mould growths will present themselves as green patches or black spots on the walls. Nevertheless, this is not the only colours that they may exhibit as. To be on the safe side, you should be wary of any discolorations on the walls of your potential home. A mould inspection would ascertain whether the walls are affected by mould or if they are discoloured due to other reasons.

Musty odours in the property

It is not uncommon to find a home that shows no visible signs of mould growths but is still affected by this problem. Another sign that you should be wary of when purchasing a new home is a constant musty smell permeating through the residence. This musty smell will almost always mean that there is water egress in the home. If there is water egress, then the probability of mould development is high, as this fungus requires moist conditionings to thrive. A mould inspection would enable you to locate the cause of the musty odour and have the mould eliminated if you choose to buy the property.

Conspicuous water damage

A property that is affected by water damage will usually have mould breeding in it too. If the house exhibits signs of water damage, it could mean that there is water retention in the walls or foundation of the home. The higher the water retention, the better the conditions for mould to thrive. Look for signs such as streaking on the walls, peeling paint, walls that are warped, etc.
